myobrace crack

crack on the center left portion of my daughter’s myobrace

On our 2nd visit to Green Apple Dental Clinic, we were glad to see the good dentist Dr. Urbi after a month from our first appointment with him.  So far, we didn’t really experience any problem with the Myobrace trainer except that it had some cracks on the lower center where the tongue touches it. It may possibly because she couldn’t help chewing and putting some pressure on it using her tongue when she is asleep. I was worried that it will have an effect on her teeth so I asked Dr. Urbi about it. Good thing he said that we had nothing to worry and there was no need to replace it. It can’t be avoided sometimes and that as long as that the parts are fully intact, the trainer is still good to go.

dental visit 2The dentist said that he is happy to see teeth marks on the trainer meaning my daughter is really using it. Actually, this part of monitoring my daughter a hundred percent during the first month had been not that easy for me and for my daughter, for that matter. She was supposed to wear the Myobrace for at least 1 hour during the day and then she should wear it overnight. She usually misses the 1 hour wearing part and I am guilty of not reminding her. School days are more difficult when she has many assignments plus play time and my husband and I are both busy working that we do not notice the hours pass by till it’s already sleeping time.

visitWe also have the breathing exercises which should be done daily. My daughter has been doing this all by herself and I see that she is doing her best to follow her routine.

The breathing exercises goes like this : She tries to hold her breath and clock it till she lets go by breathing through her nose. After 2 minutes, she’ll repeat it again. She’ll do it 5 times in a row daily. This exercise is to improve breathing awareness. As I mentioned on my first blog post, the dentist said that one of the reasons why my daughter had misaligned teeth is because she breathes through her mouth which disturbs the teeth as she grows up. She also have colds often because bacteria and virus easily gets in her system by breathing through her mouth.

sheet 2When you see my daughter’s worksheet (she fills this up too by herself), she has skipped some days and the breathing time wasn’t improving. This doesn’t help because the therapist said that she should be able to improve on holding her breath for at least 1 minute which means she is being successful in her breathing exercises.

From these results that I am seeing, I think I still need to closely monitor her. I think it’s a fault on my side since it’s only a month she started and maybe my daughter still doesn’t take it seriously yet or because she is just preoccupied like I am. We need to have this worksheet improved by next month.

teeth 1After checking Maristel’s teeth, Dr. Urbi had installed 2 tiny braces over my daughter’s two front teeth since he saw that the space between them is already widening. He asked my daughter’s favorite color, she said pink, so doc used pink rubber bands for her braces. I didn’t expect that day that my daughter will be wearing her first braces. It was my first time too see how braces are being installed. The doctor used some kind of a clear paste over the teeth, pasted the metal braces, sealed them using a pen like took with a blue light, and then he used clear and pink tiny rubber bands twisted over the teeth. It took the dentist a couple of seconds to do all these.

Then the doctor saw my daughter’s upper molar tooth on right side which was already being pushed out by a newly growing out permanent tooth. He immediately called the resident dentist to extract the tooth. I got worried for my daughter because it will also be her first time to get her tooth extracted. But the lady dentist helped me ease my daughter’s fear. She let Maristel use a dark colored eye glasses maybe for her not to see the needles. She used a semi dark paste over the gums and then administered three shots of anesthesia. After that, she easily extracted the tooth. My daughter did not budge a bit but after the procedure, she just complained that the paste tasted awful. At least, she did not get traumatic on her first tooth extraction. Thanks to the expertise of the dentists of Green Apple Dental Clinic.
