I’ve never underestimated sanitary napkins and pantyliners. I remember, since the beginning when I’ve started earning on my own, I always invest in quality napkins and liners and I stock up a lot. 2nd-3rd day – I use regular thick pads during the day and I buy the not so pricey but quality pads since I change at leat 3 times during the day. I use quality thick pads (large and long pads, the type which protects even the buttocks) to make sure that I won’t stain my sheets during the night.
4th day – I use quality regular pads, those which eliminate odor, because I noticed that during the end days of my period, that’s when the blood smells nastier compared to previous days.

For panty liners, I always tell my daughters to use one and replace them as often as needed for them to feel comfortable all day.
