Yoga for Kids – A Different Bonding Experience With Music and Arts

Posted on Mar 18 2014 - 8:57pm by tweenselmom

I haven’t experienced Yoga before but I have heard a lot of good things about it. Last week, my kids and I had experienced practicing Yoga in a perfectly serene place at White Space Mind and Body Wellness studio in Katipunan through Mom & Me Fun to be Fit ( a series of physical fitness events made especially for mommies and kids)!

The Place at White Space

White Space1white space 3First time I see the place, I felt so impressed on how calm and clean the surrounding was. They were still preparing the mats and the art materials but there’s calming peace with the daylight passing through the glass walls. The amenities were perfect including the lockers and the bathrooms which were kept pristine. The White Space name really suits the place.

The Activities ☆☆☆☆☆

This Mom and Me Fun and Fit Yoga event was just perfect for me and my kids. It gave us an opportunity to break unhealthy routines plus we experienced to connect with each other in a relaxing and creative environment.

Arts

I’ve always known that Art time is quiet time because when my daughters are doing their arts at home, it’s like they are in their own world.  Teacher Ana of White Space gave us parents and kids several art activities which were simple, colorful and fun. These activities were specifically focused on reminding us that we are all a MASTERPIECE. The little kids really enjoyed these simple activities and I myself learned to appreciate the little things that our senses can make us feel (colors, sounds, smell).

Music
The teachers at White Space were so full of talent they were able to compose this kind of music, almost tantric, which was being played using an electric guitar yet so soft to the ears. Music was incorporated all throughout the activities and we were all more than glad to sing peaceful mantras declaring each of ourselves as a masterpiece.

Physical Exercises
Yoga is all about being fit but the difference is that it’s a whole kind of being fit, mental and emotional. As we go about flexing our bodies (little kids do as what their parents do), the connection with faith and nature is there. We wiggled, flexed, soared a lot, just like free creatures in nature.

After the session, everyone of us are smiling and revived, ready to face the busy world again. There were prizes and loots given to attendees but the best prize we got are the memories of a day filled with colors and inner happiness.

I love yoga!!! I do yoga with stories with the children in my classes and they love it, too. I tell a story while doing the poses with the children–the poses are part of the story. 🙂
