I’ve only heard of good things about the Cupcakes By Sonja so I was so delighted when I saw their newly opened branch at Ayala Fairview Terraces.
The moment you see this blackboard at their entrance, you know for sure that you will be in for a treat! Choose the perfect pair you want, a sweet cupcake with a cup of coffee or a cold glass of iced tea.
Upon entering the cupcake shop, you’ll be welcomed with a cool atmosphere with their wooden tables and potted plants. The sign up on the wall is true, the sun is here with the bright smiles of the crew as you see the real sun shining brightly outside the shop. Note: They give WiFi access! Don’t waste your time anymore. Look at the cupcake rack and you’ll see a nice line of cupcakes and sweets you’ll never get tired of looking at. Their stocks were not that plenty (for now I guess) but they were enough to keep me dreaming of going back again.
Red Velvet, Smores and Coffee On our first visit, we tried one of their Classic and Premium pairs. Smores Tart and Brewed Iced Tea for me and the kids while we bought Daddy Steve with a Red Velvet Cupcake and Coffee. The Smores Tart easily became our favorite because of the marshmallow and the thick chocolate tart at the core. Iced Tea was deeply brewed so the kids preferred water at the end. Coffee was light, not bitter and complemented the red velvet cupcake very well.
History of The Red Velvet Cupcake
I’ve always been curious why a red velvet cupcake has been popular because when I was younger, I didn’t remember any red velvet cakes at all. I found out that a red velvet cake is traditionally being offered as a groom’s cake. (I didn’t know that there are supposed to be groom’s cake!) One of the most popular films about women “Steel Magnolias” featured a red armadillo velvet groom’s cake. I didn’t like how an armadillo cake looks like when being cut in half and showing the red velvet parts. For me, it just shows how people can be both creative and gross at the same time when it comes to cake making. And the Red Velvet Cupcakes By Sonja is nothing like that. It’s a sweet, deliciously fluffy cupcake with a creamy frosting on top.
Cupcakes by Sonja as we learned also offer customized cakes and cupcakes for special occasions. I’ve yet to check their prizes but look at these sample cakes. For sure, every celebrant will jump with joy having these cakes on their parties.
And of course, the famous Cupcake Academy
I wish I was young enough to try their baking lessons but I were not so maybe, we will just satisfy ourselves by going to their shop at Fairview Terraces and try out their latest cupcake flavors whenever we like to relax and have coffee.
