If you will be given an option to teach your child at home, will you do it? With the steeping prices of tuition fees, increasing crimes, and declining education standards, the option of homeschooling has been getting a lot of attention these days.
What is Home Schooling
Actually, most of us parents did home school our children when they were young. I personally have done this and tutored my two daughters when they were were 4 years old. They skipped the nursery stage because I was already able to teach them to read, write and draw. The prep school assessed them that they can start with Kinder 1. It gave us great relief to save money for that 1 whole year when we did not have to spend for their tuition fee. It was also a joyous experience knowing that our children learned their first subjects through us, their parents.
Basically, home schooling is like that and it can be easy to decide to go through it when your child is still a little tot or a toddler. What if your children are already grown ups just like mine?
Best Candidates for Home Schooling
I’ve never given much thought about home schooling until recently when I’ve read about so many parents doing it and realized that it is indeed being allowed in the country. Actually, many families undergo homeschooling programs when they fall in these categories:
- they live in secluded places (maybe far away provinces)
- they are celebrities or athletes who need to go to different places most of the time
- they are families of expats
- the kids or the parents have health conditions
Homeschooling As Part of Parenting Style
Aside from the reasons I’ve mentioned above, there are families who may choose homeschooling because they have parenting reasons to do so. One reason is they have religious beliefs that they want to instill to their children which can’t be done when they go to big schools. Another reason I see is because of the increasing issues in bullying wherein parents think that big schools these days, no matter how they claim that they are dealing with these issues, is that some children are just getting to be more aggressive and their children’s mental/social growth will just be impeded when they continue to go to these schools.
The Best Sources To Learn About Home Schooling
There are LOTS more to learn about homeschooling and there will be hundreds of articles and data which you can find online. But the question is, are they for you? There are lots of situations a family can deal with and not all of them may be applicable to yours. The best advice I can give, in my experience, is ask the persons who are of the same race who live in the same situations. Filipino families who actually bloomed and developed their children through home schooling.

Hi Nadia, I know, I’ve been reading your blog too! Goodluck!
Marami ng nagpa practice ng homeschooling whiich i think is very effective din.
Hi Mary Joy, I agree with you. Homeschooling is becoming more popular these days more than ever 🙂
Hi Mary Joy, that’s correct. I think homeschooling has gotten so much attention this year, thanks to the advocates.
Been thinking of homeschooling my twins, at least for preschool. I want to know more about it! 🙂
Goodluck to you Rina. There are many advocates of homeschooling within Mommy Bloggers Philippines. I’m sure you will enjoy the conference 🙂
Nope, not for me. I never even considered it :.
HI Robin, I’m sure you have your reasons 🙂 Can you share it with us?
I never really considered homeschooling as an option. I just know I would not be good at it.
Hi Stefany, thanks for visiting my blog. Most moms really do think homeschooling is difficult but many families are already considering it.
Why have I never thought to look into homeschooling conferences before? Genius tip!
Goodluck to that, I know there are lots more happening in other countries.
I know my limitations and organization is one of them. I’m not capable of being a homeschool parent, that much I know. I envy the organization of those who can pull it off though.
Hi Liz, I’m same with you. I have issues on being organized. I guess it’s part of every mom’s life 🙂
I think it’s great that children are able to be homeschooled. I did a little bit before my daughter goes to Kindergarten this year. She knows her address simple math and name writing. Homeschooling full time is not for us, but more power to those that can.
The same with me Jeanette, I think little kids are much more easier to homeschool than big ones but then again I need to attend this conference first 🙂
great info – we’ve been considering it.
Thanks Stephanie!
Thanks for sharing this. We’ve been contemplating on homeschooling and there is so much to consider!
Hi Mommy Trisha, you are absolutely correct. I hope to see you on the conference 🙂
Thanks for sharing. I cannot wait to start officially homeschool our son. We’ll be starting pre-school stuff at home this year. 🙂
Well, goodluck and all the best to that Mrs. Mashed Up 🙂
I have a son who’s home schooled now I badly needed to know more about it coz I have the BIG C and cant hardly send my 2 kids at school and I am also planning to send my youngest to home school also next school year this would really help 🙂
Hi Razel, the conference will indeed be very helpful to you!
We homeschooled for a number of years. It was a great experience, and it’s good to be done too! 🙂
Thanks Marya!
I want to attend this so I will be guided on our homeschooling journey.

Hi Serene, wishing you luck on getting the prized seats 🙂
Thanks for the info. I definitely wouldn’t homeschool my daughter. My daughter is cognitively and physically disabled and going to school has really helped her improve independent skills, extra life skills and that she needs to listen to other adults.. not just me 🙂
I see your points Jaime 🙂 my daughters are in big school too but when situations arise, I’m happy that I have options.
I hope this Homeschooling Conference can give me insight about whether my family can pull it off.

Hi Karina, thanks for joining and good luck!
I want to know if homeschooling is for us and I have lots of questions about homeschooling. I’m hoping they will all be answered during the conference. So I’m joining! =)

Goodluck Edel!
I wish I had the time and patience to be a homeschool parent!
Me too Rachelle!
homeschooling isn’t for us but i think it’s great for those who can do it.
Thanks for your comment katrina!
If I ever stop working and stay home with the kids, I will homeschool. I want to instill religious beliefs on my children and the bullying is scary.
Hi Maggie, bullying is indeed a growing issue these days. It can be traumatic for children.
We don’t fall into any of the categories you’ve mentioned. 🙂 We’ve decided to continue home schooling to give our children the opportunity to grow and be the best that they can be. To expose them to real life early and to teach them to love, respect and value others. Yes, we do teach them about the bible, but it isn’t because we want to pass on our religious beliefs..but more on giving them more time to get to know the God of the bible. 🙂
Still waiting for hubby to fix schedule, that home school conference is a good place to be at for families like ours.
Hi May, thanks for visiting. Yes, I guess there are a lots of good reasons why families prefer homeschooling. As parents, we are always up to what’s best and what will work with our children 🙂
That’s very true. To be perfectly honest, it isn’t really home schooling that makes the big difference, it’s the parents’ commitment to see their children through. We really need to find a way to be present in their lives now. I have friends whose children have grown so beautifully in character but were in regular schools all the way . 🙂
There is no way I could home school my children. I am not organized or patient. I am in awe of those that home school.
We all are Ann!
i’d like to learn more activities for homeschooling.

I don’t think it is for me. I don’t have the patience or time for it.
