Be A Foodie Without Spending Much Money

Posted on Mar 5 2015 - 4:19am by tweenselmom

A “foodie” is a person who loves food and craves on trying out new flavors and new places to eat. It’s not gluttony or obsession for food but it’s enjoying the blessing of taste. Not everybody is blessed with good health to be able to enjoy even the simplest dishes. And you don’t even have to have all that money to be one adventurous foodie.

Here are some of my tips how:

zomato1. Register in Zomato. Zomato is the best place online to discover places to eat around Manila. From the most extravagant to the cheapest but most delicious spots. What’s best in this website is that you see actual reviews from customers. You see photos they took when they eat there. And you’ll also be able to check the restaurant’s menu and prices. You’ll be able to know if the place is fit to your budget.

2. Get ZAP. ZAP will give you 5% to 20% cashback whenever you eat on their partner establishments. Meaning you get to enjoy food and you get a portion of your money back. Check my posts on how I got great money points and freebies just by using ZAP.

3. Get good deals online. Register to FoodPanda  (it’s free!) at FoodPandaPH and have your food delivered at home. FoodPanda regularly gives discount to their subscribers and you get to order your food online without hassle.

You can also subscribe to various deal websites such as MetroDeal, Ensogo, CashCash, Groupon. Some deals can even get you a cut of 50% from the original dish prizes!

4. Get coupons. Those coupons which restaurant crews hand out as you pass by the resto, get them or collect them. Keep them in your bag and then into a small envelope at home which you can easily pull out when you had the craving and some budget to visit the restaurant.

5. Be a blogger and join blogging communities. Having a blog will open the doors to many food review opportunities and event invitations. Make sure that you do your homework when it comes to developing your blog, your content and design so that people will follow you and that you will have actual readers who will enjoy what you share.\

6. Join blogging communities. If you are a mom like me, join Mommy Bloggers Philippines. Blogging communities are often being tapped by restaurants and food companies for food reviews and media invitations. As you meet new bloggers, PR and media managers, you will find yourself checking on your schedule for your next food spot to visit.

7. Join blogger’s promos. Veteran bloggers, specially food bloggers, often announce restaurant deals, contests and promos, even hotel accommodations. By doing some clicks and shares on your social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), you’ll have great chances of winning Gift Certificates to amazing restaurants and hotels.

8. Use MunchPunch. MunchPunch is a membership site which will give you a chance to get freebies and perks to hundreds of restaurants. For P299.00 you get a VIP membership and you get 10% above discounts to your favorite restaurants.

9. Follow your favorite restaurants and food spots through their social media. It will take only a couple of seconds to Like your favorite restaurant’s Facebook page and you’ll see their promotions regularly. For example: Baskin Robbins announced their Buy One Take One free flavor in their Facebook page currently.

10. Cook your own. With all the discount, freebie, and blogging tips I mentioned, there is another simple way you get to enjoy food without having to spend much. That is by making and serving your own food at home. Print out recipes and put some twist. Try new brands and ingredients and experiment at home.

As we get old, our taste buds become bland, our time is lessened with much more responsibilities, and we aren’t strong enough to go all the places that your heart may desire. So, while you are healthy and capable of being a foodie, I suggest for you to be one.

Follow Me in Zomato and enjoy being a Foodie!

I swear that I have gained 10 lbs since I became a blogger. Between press trips, restaurant reviews or snacks at events, all I do is eat.

We go through phases where we’ll print out and try various recipes. It is nice to break the rut we’re all too prone to fall into, of eating the same foods week after week.

Thanks for all of the tips. I am not much of a foodie, but that is because I can’t eat just amount anything.

Thanks for this post! I didn’t understand how Zap worked so I never bothered to use it. But I think I’ll give it another try and really take time to understand how it works.
