I’ve been working at home for almost a decade and because of that, watching noon time shows is sometimes inevitable for me. Hindi maiwasan kasi while we eat lunch, we turn on the tv and watch what’s in there. Don’t take me wrong, the current noontime shows can be entertaining most of the times. We laugh at Jose Manalo’s jokes and sometimes, when we switch to ABS CBN, ok na din minsan ang mga jokes ni Vice Ganda.
After all the jokes and the thousands of commercials in between the segments, I thought, what do these noontime shows have to offer to improve the lives of the viewers. Well, except entertaining them? I imagine myself, siguro, if I don’t have internet and if I am not fond of reading, and I will be stuck at home for a month, with these shows as my only option, one whole month will pass by na I won’t learn anything new or something valuable to add to myself.
How about the thousands of mothers who stay at home and watch these shows regularly, 7 days a week? They pay electricity, buy the products they see from the commercials (all these repeated advertisements can condition your mind really), but what do they get in return aside from an hour or two of entertainment? Even in the entertainment aspect, yung mga talented nating artists won’t even guest on these shows except if they have concerts or new movies.
I remember, years ago, Eat Bulaga often has Del Monte cooking segments. At least kahit sa mga segment like these, we pick something valuable. Recipes we can use at home. Now, there’s nothing left in their show. Kahit sana Pinoy Henyo ok nayon sakin. Now they’ve stopped this contest na din. Even during weekends, gone are the shows when I can watch “meaty” programs in the afternoon. We are just fortunate that we rarely spend time watching local tv programs when we are together during weekends.
I don’t think that it’s the fault of the viewers why we don’t have sensible noon time shows. I wish there will just be good tv producers who will be able to think about producing programs where they will get their income but at the same time help even the most uneducated viewers improve their lives, encourage them to think and better their economic status. Maybe for the mothers like me, they can include segments or produce shows which will showcase correct family values. I don’t know what kind of show but there should be intelligent people out there who might have ideas but sadly no one would like to invest because they don’t want to take risk.
Morning shows are much better than noontime shows, but I wish, even though these noontime shows are meant to entertain us during those sleepy hours, kahit paano they give something back to the people which will make them better and more intelligent persons, at least little by little.
How about you? How do you think can we benefit more from the current noontime shows?
Yes I agree, morning shows are far better.
I will be marking my first anniversary as a stay-at-home mom this March and I could still count on my two hands the number of Times I’ve watched a noontime show. Perhaps not really my interest. I only hold our tv remote control every Monday at 11:35 am to watch the walking dead before. Hahahah.
I’d love it if they can feature cooking segments again. I’m not the best cook so I rely on these cooking shows a lot.
I couldn’t agree more. That’s why I stopped watching local noon time programs. We love to watch whatever is on History channel instead. Everything there is very informative and entertaining too.
I haven’t been watching tv so much lately coz I’m always out talking to people. If not, I’m usually glued to my laptop. I guess noontime shows should also give its audience something educational aside from making them want to buy something that they are promoting.
I agree with you. I used to watch Showtime at noon but now I just search for a good movie from the other channels rather than watching pinoy noon time show.
I’m not a fan of any noontime shows. I was so left behind when it comes to teleseryes too. I barely know about the sensational aldub that i always hear from my in laws and other relatives. I only get to watch ‘showtime’ lately, whenever my husband is around bcause of “tawag ng tanghalan” ba yun? The singing contest, with daily winners and contenders… I find it entertaining though…other than that, i’d rather take a nap..
I don’t watch noon time shows at all so I’m not aware of what’s on but I guess to pass the time it would be a good option.
I feel that these local noontime shows would be better if it had the good ole trivia games in them, or maybe even give a comeback to the delmonte segment that Eat Bulaga used to have yes? 🙂
I feel you, now that I am sahm, I prefer watching Little Einstein with my baby the entire day than watching noon time shows. Mabuti na din na may cable kami as option.
True. They need to give us more than just entertainment. 🙁
