Apart from milk fish (bangus), cream dory is my family’s favorite. And because it is always available in the supermarket and relatively affordable (depends on the brand), it’s also my favorite to cook. For me, it has a unique taste but it’s very subtle that you can easily mix it to different ingredients, and make different kinds of meals. It’s also easy to cook. You can steam it, coat and fry it or fry it as it is.
But what about the nutrients, what do we get from cream dory ? You’ll see the nutrient content below. As you may see, this fish is rich in protein BUT it is also high in calories and sodium (salt) . These are major considerations in our diet because it’s not healthy to consume too much calories and salt.
Some people avoid cream dory because they say that it has high mercury content. High mercury content disrupts development of the body specially children. This is an issue with fishes which are being caught in deep sea. But nowadays, there are many producers which breed cream dory in fish farms and they are checked by supermarkets before they are taken in as suppliers. So far, I can trust the groceries I go to that the cream dory I buy are safe.
Now that we know how nutritious cream dory is, it’s time to have some ideas how you can prepare or cook them at home.
Mine is a simple coat-and-fry recipe while I’ve added some links to other recipes you might want to check out.
