If there is any stage in parenting where you can really use your planning skills, it’s in the planning stage of pregnancy. I can confidently say that because, in my 13 years of parenting, uncertainty starts the moment your child comes out from you in the delivery room. But while you are in the planning stage, from the time when you and your husband had just decided that you wanted that little bundle of joy to that day when you start to babyproof your home before the baby arrives, that you will be able to perfectly handle given that you are equipped with the proper information and health care.
Millenials (as what they call the moms in this generation) are quite lucky that there’s a flood of information when it comes to pregnancy. Not to mention the relatives and friends who are eager to give tips and advises, the OB-Gynes and healthcare professionals, there’s also the huge online library, the internet.
And there’s more and they can be more fun because you get to interact with other moms who will be there throughout your visits. I’m talking about the various pregnancy classes you and your husband can attend. The good news is these classes can be availed free in the First Time Mom Unit of Jesus Memorial Delgado Hospital. Here’s the list of classes and a brief description about them.
Pregnancy and Childbirth Preparation Classes
This will be very important for first-time moms. This will be like reading “What To Expect When You Are Expecting” like knowing normal body changes you can expect throughout pregnancy and how you should deal with them.
Vaccination and Newborn Care Counseling
I only knew all about this when I gave birth to my first child. It’s because you will only get to meet your first pediatrician when your child is born. But in this workshop, you’ll already be able to know how important these vaccines are and how you should manage your finances before your baby is born because vaccines are not cheap.
Nutrition Counseling and Exercise Classes
“Eating for two” when you are pregnant may not always be that healthy for you. It will be beneficial for you to know the right nutrition both for you and your baby from health professionals.
Basic First Aid and CPR Classes
These classes are essential not only for moms and babies but also for husbands and helpers.
Breastfeeding Counselling and Play Workshops
Learn how to properly breastfeed and deal with the challenges of breastfeeding.
There are a lot more to things I may not have mentioned which you can learn within each of these workshops. And if ever I get pregnant before I turn 50, I’ll definitely take all these classes with my husband. Even though I’m a mom of two already, I feel I still have a lot of things to learn.

I think that first aid classes are important. Kaya lang this is for pregnant women? so basically, baby-focused ang first aid siguro. Nice that they have this. I’m not sure if there were already classes like these when I was pregnant with my first two kids.
Soon to be moms are indeed lucky to have all these available seminars that they can attend to. The seminar and counseling topics are very important that even i would love to know more about it despite having 2 kids na :p
First-time parents will surely benefit from the topics in this unit. When I was pregnant the first time, the only seminar I attended was the childbirth class. Though it was really helpful, I found a lot of surprises like vaccine schedule, nutrition and breastfeeding issues. At least with this, a wider range of topics are covered and in a hospital pa!
very helpful especially for first time moms
Interesting! lalo na sa mga kabataan sa ngayon, malaking tulong ito para sa kanila, pra mas maunawaan pa nila ang tamang pag plano para sa magiging family nila.
Wow, these classes sound so awesome! And they’re free! I hope there were classes like these when I was pregnant, but I’m glad they’re available to those who are pregnant and those who are planning for pregnancy.
I somehow saw this first time mom unit lounge on my FB news feed. This is really good news for first timers as a support and make them feel confident and well informed on pregnancy and childbirth.
Oh this is a welcome treat to first time moms. I remember when I was pregnant for the first tine, all there was, was books.
Wow! This is a great news to all moms who are planning to get pregnant.
I will consider this mommy next year, I hope the membership is still free by that time 😁
