I admit peeling potatoes is not one of my favorite things to do in the kitchen but I have to do it a lot. My kids love mashed potatoes and who am I to blame them or even stop them? They want mashed potatoes with their fried chicken and roast beef. They want it for snacks and sometimes my kids request for me to make a huge bowl for school pot lucks. This is a very good thing because we all know how nutritious and power-packed potatoes are. If there is just an easier way to make mashed potatoes, right?
Actually, there is! They are US dehydrated potatoes (US dehy). Don’t be discouraged by the word “dehydrated” though because US dehy is a true blue US product made of premium potatoes. The only difference is in its more lightweight and compact form, and perhaps in its great versatility.
US dehy are made from potatoes grown and harvested in the US, and processed under stringent standards of the US Department of Agriculture to retain consistency, quality and ensure food safety. Typically, they are made from creamy white-fleshed Russet potatoes.
US dehy offer savings in time, money and storage. For one, there is no need to wash, peel and boil them. Instead of a bulky sack, your kitchen space will be taken up by just a box. You can pull the product out and use the desired amount easily. It also has a long shelf life, so you can stock it for up to two years.
This is the best thing I’ve known about US dehy. Did you know that one kilo rehydrates to as much as five kilos? That’s so economical, isn’t it? With the price of veggies surging due inflation, we don’t even know how we can sustain our menus with vegetables. It’s easy to rehydrate US potatoes if needed. I’ve shared the simple instructions below in case you will be needing it.
How To Rehydrate US Potatoes To Make Mashed Potatoes

Like me, I know you are excited to know how limitless the types of dishes where we can use these amazing potatoes, not only mashed potatoes. You can US dehy for creamier soups, sauces and stews. Potato chowder, whether with clams or bacon, makes for a great, filling soup on a rainy day. You can also try US dehy as food stuffing for roasted poultry or as a base for toppings. US dehy can also be used in breads, cakes, pastries and even native delicacies.
There’s a lot to discover with US dehy like potato pancakes or waffles for breakfast, potato croquettes for snacks, shepherd’s pie for lunch or dinner, or see how it can enhance local dishes like kaldereta, menudo, humba and afritada.
Sometimes, I prefer making my mashed potatoes creamier and more of like a thick soup. The kids love to match it with a thick gravy poured over their fried chicken. You can find the recipe for Corn Flakes Crusted Chicken Fillet With Mashed Potato And Gravy here.
I’ve always loved to try making a delicious Shepherd’s Pie and I think the recipe from US Potato Website will be perfect
