Smart Araneta gave us a unique end-of-the year experience through the Magic On Ice show. We were just so happy that we didn’t miss this show. I think it was a bold move for Smart Araneta to host a different kind of show and give kids and adults alike something they have not seen before.
I’ve Googled this show a little bit before the show date and was thrilled about the performers. The show has been seen in a lot of bigger countries such Europe, the US, Asia and the Middle East and for the first time, it would be shown in the Philippines. If I had been on the press con, I would have asked Steve Wheeler why he chose our small country to perform this magnificent show. Maybe we Filipinos are just loved.
We’ve watched the 6PM show last December 27, lower box seats. It was just the right distance to see the performers and the tricks. I don’t have perfect vision anymore, neither my husband so it would have been better of course if we got patron tickets. The figure skating performances was so much easier to watch but the magic tricks, audience should be in shorter distance from the stage to be able to have a good view of what’s going on on the stage.
There were three principal characters of the show, The Voyager (played by show creator Steve Wheeler), Ice Angel (Tracy Wheeler) and the Raven (4-time Estonian National Champion and Olympic figure skater Maria Sergejeva). I couldn’t recall how many segments were shown in the whole program because the performances were non-stop. Alternately, there were figure skating performances and then magic tricks.
I remember when I was younger, I was truly amazed by magic shows and there were lots of magic shows on TV. Then they were gone. When I’ve heard about Magic On Ice show coming to Manila, I’ve already decided that we were going. And the tickets were all worth it. I remembered some escape tricks ( Steve Wheeler going through a giant electric fan with sharp blade), penetration (swords passing through a basket with a lady inside it), levitation (lady floating in the air), quick change magic (magicians switching positions in a blink of an eye), vanishing tricks ( magicians vanish suddenly ), and so many more.
And then the figure skating. They were just wow! I’ve seen their figure skating styles in Olympic competitions and the cast just performed so smoothly. Ang galing talaga!
But one thing I also have to note about this show, is the beautiful lighting. The show was very colorful and the dancing lights gave the show its spectacular touch. Any kid will be delighted with the play of colors and light. There were also playful sounds that kids will love.
Watch one of the cute segments which became one of our favorites, I call them “the curlies”.
You can watch some sneak peaks of the show in Smart-Araneta’s Facebook Page
You still have a chance to see the show as it was extended till this coming weekend! You can still get tickets for the show via Ticketnet Online. Don’t miss it!
