The 3 O’s Of Jolly Claro

Posted on Jul 30 2019 - 1:30pm by tweenselmom

Cooking oil is a basic ingredient in the kitchen and because of that, most moms don’t give much thought when buying them in the grocery. In the past, I did the same. I just pick whatever I see first or most of the times, I just went for the cheapest. It’s because they all look the same. Di ba, magkakakulay lang naman sila?

But now, as my family gets bigger (in age and size), there’s a need to do more cooking. And as I spend more from the ingredients I use, I started to become more meticulous. When I buy something, I put more effort into looking at the products closer. This ensures that I really get the value of my money, that I get quality products even if I spend a lot. Or if I am lucky, I get quality products and I even manage to save.

When it comes to cooking oil, I don’t think we will know the difference just by looking at them. Kasi nga, they all look the same from a distance. The best way to check is to pour the cooking oil from the bottle, smell it and lastly, do a frying test.

Jolly Claro Palm Oil, the brand of cooking oil I use, has 3 O's : Oilinis, Oilinaw, Oilinamnam
Jolly Claro Palm Oil, the brand of cooking oil I use, has 3 O’s : Oilinis, Oilinaw, Oilinamnam

Just this week, I decided to do a simple fry test of the brand I use, Jolly Claro Palm Oil and compare it from a major brand which is kind of more expensive. There are more brands out there in the market, which makes it more difficult for us moms to choose.

Why do this test? Jolly Claro is a tested brand already, at least for me, as I’ve already done a similar test before. But this time, I’ve compared it to another major brand, and also to see if Jolly Claro’s quality is being consistent over time. You know there are products that are like that, they are good at first, and yet, they change over time, and gets more expensive pa.

Jolly Claro’s 3 O’s

For the fry test, of course, I cooked fried chicken in three batches using Jolly Claro Palm Oil and the other is another major brand of palm oil. I got samples of the cooking oil after cooking each batch and compared their colors, smell and taste.

Oilinaw - Jolly Claro Palm Oil is so clear and clean-smelling, no "maanta" smell

There's no better way to test the quality of the cooking oil than a fry test

Second Batch

After 3rd batch of chicken fried using

Third batch of chicken fried using

Chicken fried using Jolly Claro looks cleaner and much more delicious because the oil doesn't get too sticky even if the oil was already used previously. Fried chicken didn't burn easily as Jolly Claro has high smoke point. Jolly Claro is so Oilinamnam.

I was so satisfied to know and proved that I am making a wise decision in choosing Jolly Claro Palm Oil as my cooking oil. Other than the 3 O’s, there are many benefits of using Jolly Claro:

1. Cholesterol-free – Since it’s classified as vegetable oil and it is not made from animal fat, it is cholesterol-free!
2. Doesn’t solidify – A good quality oil should not solidify quickly
3. Doesn’t get rancid – Doesn’t easily get that unpleasant taste and smell vs other palm oil.

Question: Can we use palm oil as an alternative to much more expensive but healthier types of cooking oil? Yes.

1. Palm Oil comes from the flesh of the fruit of the oil palm. In its virgin form, the color is orange-red because of its high beta carotene content.
2. It resists oxidation – there’s no undesirable series of chemical reactions involving oxygen that degrades the quality of an oil.
3. It has an equal portion of saturated & unsaturated fat (OMEGA 3) – oils that have an equal proportion of saturated and unsaturated fats are best because these are the most stable at high heat point.
4. It has a high content of Vitamin A & antioxidants.

What do you think about this fry test? Will you do the same test at home to compare the brand that you are using? I’d love to hear your comments!

We stopped reusing oil already, but yes to Palm oil. Two recommended safest cooking oils are coconut and palm. I also like Claro and i am a Jolly-fan.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you. Because of palm oil and its massive expansion, the orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra are not only losing their homes but are also pushed closer to extinction.

This oil looks like it’s perfect for baking. We hardly use oil to cook and use only high quality oils on our salads. For the pan we mostly use coconut oil since we discovered it on our travels

Oh wow! Interesting that you did comparisons for testing the oils and seeing the outcome even with cooking the chicken. I’ll be looking closely at the oil that I am buying as well.

I’ve never heard of this cooking oil but it looks like it worked great on your chicken. For me, I prefer olive oil most of all. But then again, I don’t really cook so I have no say 🙂

Although I like palm oil, I’ve been apprehensive about using it because of its impact on the environment. If there was a more environmentally friendly way of harvesting it, I’d be so pleased!

It is very important that we have a good choice of cooking oil. Never heard of this before but I hope I will be able to try this if available in my location.

My parents reuse the oils they’ve fried with. I’ve always thought twice about doing that because it ncludes the grease as well.

The chicken looks delicious. I like the way you’ve experimented with the palm oil. I haven’t tried that brand.

We also use Jolly Claro at home. Even sa house ng momi ko, Jolly na rin gamit. I asked her kasi to try the taste test and naconvince sya na di lasang maanta o oil tlaaga ung Jolly Claro.

Currently using canola but I alternate it with palm coz I read somewhere na it helps avoid burning food. Will try Jolly Claro next time.

I’m a Claro user and yes magandang gamitin ang Claro, though hanggang 2nd reuse lang ako.

Ang galing ng comparison, we can really see the difference! And I bet the taste also differs. Thanks for sharing! 😉

Nice comparison with reusing oil. We use corn oil at home though it has some issues like GMO naman. Alas, it would be very expensive to use olive oil for frying.. hehe

After using the oil 3 times it’s still clear and did not change color. Great comparison review of Jolly Claro oil.

I’ve been using Jolly Claro Palm Oil since I first reviewed it and it’s true, kahit ilang beses mo gamitin ulit, malinaw pa rin!

I agree. I also use Jolly Claro Palm Oil and I also reuse it after cooking fried chicken. Sometimes, after 2 batches of chicken, I even use it to cook fish.
