If there’s an event that I am most excited about this coming week, it is the 2019 Spuds And Dairy Culinary Cup! Potatoes and dairy are my favorite ingredients in the kitchen and it will be cool to discover new recipes and see how they are prepared by top chefs and culinary students.
I’m a fan of reality cooking shows such as Top Chef, Top Chef Desserts and Zumbo’s Desserts. They inspire me to work in my kitchen. Cooking competitions are just my thing that it was so memorable for me when I was able to join the US Potato Safari 6 Cook-off Challenge.
In this upcoming 2019 Spuds And Dairy Culinary Cup, I may not be a contestant but I am excited to root for some of the chefs I’ve already met such as Chef Kit Carpio in US Potato Safari 6 and Chef Sharwin Tee in several blogging events.
This exciting competition pits teams made of a professional chef and a top culinary student together to come up with their best potatoes and dairy dishes and the mechanics will be as followed:
- Teams will be provided all the necessary tools and equipment, but would have to shop for their own ingredients. A wide array of U.S. potato and California dairy products will be made available to all the contestants.
- The chef will not be permitted to cook, but can only plan, mentor and oversee dish development with his partner student. Execution will all be in the hands of the culinary student. Teams will need to load up on their creative juices as categories and special ingredients will be revealed just before the competition.
- The board of judges will be comprised of renowned chefs and culinary experts from Potatoes USA and the California Milk Advisory Board.
The most exciting part for me are the prizes for the winners. The pair who wins Best Potato Dish will each walk away with a cool Php 100,000 cash prize. Meanwhile, the winners of the Best Dairy Dish will hop on a plane for an all-expense paid trip to the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, California for a three-day immersion program.
What a treat for the winners! I can almost feel the energy and the pressure that this competition will bring to the contestants. Imagine bagging that huge amount and a chance to fly abroad to Napa Valley in California. I know how prestigious Napa Valley is most especially for culinary and wine enthusiasts.
So come on! Let’s watch the 2019 Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall from 1:00PM – 4:00PM. Whether you are a home-cook, a professional chef, or someone who loves food, I’m sure you’ll have fun and learn so much from this event.

This sounds like a fun competition to follow, especially because the cooks can only mentor and not prepare the dishes themselves. And the prize is so fantastic!
Honestly, I’m one of those people who could eat potatoes every single day and be completely happy with it. I’m sure I would be obsessed with any of the recipes that the contenders make!
ohhhh this is definitely interesting… I think I need to join such things.
Are they going to show this on television? I think I wanna see this. I love potatoes. I love a good gnocchi or a creamy gratin. Hmmmmmm…
I really like spuds, not sure about the culinary cup.
Wishing them the best.

I love TV cooking competitions as well so this would be quite exciting to watch. I like the part about the chef not being able to cook — only the student! Adds an added dimension to the competition!
I pretty much like anything having to do with potatoes. This looks awesome! Thanks so much for sharing with us!
I’d love to be a winner. Those dishes could be a great help in my big family kitchen life. We do love potato a lot.
Culinary competitions are my favourite. However, I just don’t like potatoes!
