Black Gulaman Summer Dessert

I love using black gulaman (black agar agar or jelly powder) for dessert because you can complement it with whatever other ingredients you like, your preferred fruit, in your preferred sweetness.

With this black gulaman dessert (used @mrhatgulaman of course), you can create your own version. With most of us staying at home because of covid19, you have all the time to be creative.

Ingredients

Black gulaman (cubed) – I use Mr. Hat Gulaman when I’m making jellies. Follow the procedure in sachet. Here I used 1/2 sachet of black gulaman powder in 3 cups of water. I added a spoon of table sugar to add sweetness.

For 1 bowl of dessert:

  • 2 tbsp condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp coconut milk
  • 2 cups fresh milk
  • 2 tbsp of small-sized tapioca pearls
  • 1 cup of shredded ice

Fruits – you can choose to add mangoes, apples, strawberries, oranges, peaches or coconut meat

Ice Cream – you can add any flavor of ice cream that you will think will complement your summer dessert – avocado, matcha, ube, mango, or macapuno.

Assemble Your Black Gulaman Jelly Dessert

  1. Prepare the cold soup by combining fresh milk, condensed milk and coconut milk.
  2. In a bowl, add shredded ice at the bottom, then add your fresh fruit on one side, black gulaman on one side, and then tapioca pearls on one side.
  3. Add your ice cream at the middle of the bowl.
  4. Pour your milky soup slowly at the side of the bowl careful not to ruin your jelly-fruit-pearls arrangement.
  5. Finally, serve and enjoy!

Making this refreshing dessert is fun and you can even let your kids help in arranging their dessert bowls.

How about you? What do you think will be the perfect combination of fruits and jelly flavors for this kind of dessert?

Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that black jelly before! Does it stain your tongue? It looks really tasty, especially once you pop it into that big bowl of yummy fruits and whatnot. Going to have to give this a try.
