This is a congratulatory post for my eldest daughter who initiated and took her first steps in having her own brand and business – Crazy Rich Cheesecakes. I’m a proud mom because starting a business is a great leap for anyone. It takes guts and dedication to launch even the smallest business you can take and at her age when most teens prefer to do different things, I give it to her to think of selling cheesecakes as a great idea to earn even a little bit.
It started when I baked Oreo cookies and cream cheesecake and she asked me if I can teach her so that she can also make her own favorite flavors, Toblerone and blueberry. She learned easily and after tasting her creations, it gave her the spark to sell them. And so the process of taste-testing and buying ingredients and packaging started.
As a work at home mom and dads, my daughters are aware of how we do hard work to keep the family finances flowing. And so they already know the value of saving and reaping the benefits of working hard, not only in school but also when they want to buy something for themselves that is beyond our family budget. By having her own store, my daughter started something that she can manage and be able to grow in the long run.
Small as it is, there are lots to learn when opening a business and here are some of them:
- Budgeting
- Time management
- Research skills
- Marketing skills
- Skills in numbers
And a lot more. As a mom, I’m just happy that through this small business activity, we get to have more time to talk together as she asks questions a lot, and then we suggest ideas to her from time to time. It’s a great bonding activity in this time of pandemic and looking forward if she happens to wish to continue even when school already starts, we can help her discover new flavors or strategies to make her business grow bigger.
