It’s Easier To Cook Food On-The-Go With U.S. Potatoes

Posted on Aug 12 2020 - 12:30am by tweenselmom

Cooking has always been my passion ever since I became a full-time work-at-home mom.  I have always enjoyed preparing the menu in advance and then cooking them daily. But this pandemic imposed many challenges for me in the kitchen.

  1. I have limited ingredients in my pantry, both quantity and variety wise.
  2. I have to cut on my budget because we are in a crisis and we see the need to save more just in case this pandemic will get worse or be extended.
  3. I have to find ways to serve dishes that are healthy to make my family more resistant to diseases.
  4. Because we don’t go out to dine and try new restaurants, I have to be more creative and try to serve new dishes. We are all starting to get bored with the dishes I usually serve.

But just like an answered prayer, I just got a bag full of goodies that really made cooking easier for me. It was a nice, sturdy bag from Potatoes USA that contains recipe books, an apron, an oven mitt, a whisk, and a good stock of U.S. Standard Dehydrated Potato Flakes and Granules.

I’ve already cooked several dishes using U.S.potato products, including crusted salmon with potato sauce and fruit salsa , cheesy broccoli croquette , salted caramel spuds and many more. Now, more than ever, I appreciate the versatility of these potatoes. They are not only healthy but they can also be used in a hundred different meals, including food on-the-go.

Food on-the-go are easy to prepare dishes that don’t require many ingredients, the ingredients are not expensive, and they can be cooked in under an hour.  Because these foods can be made cheap but delicious, they are good ideas when you want to set-up a small food business which is so perfect these days. I see so many new food entrepreneurs nowadays and I thought U.S.potatoes will greatly help moms and food entrepreneurs think of new food ideas to sell online.

So I tried one of the food on-the-go ideas from one of the recipe books: siomai! We love eating siomai and sometimes I buy frozen siomai from the grocery. As you can see in my photos below, I can already make my own siomai. U.S.dehy potatoes serve not only as an extender, binder and filler to the siomai but also improved the texture and enhanced the flavor of the filling.

U.S.potatoes also made the siomai healthier because potatoes have no fat, no sodium and no cholesterol. They contain more potassium than a bananas, and is packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, fiber, and protein. That’s one healthy siomai!

Here’s the recipe if you want to try making your own:

Ingredients:

500g Chicken thigh fillet, chopped (or you can also use lean ground pork such as the one I used here in my recipe post)
120g squid balls, chopped
50g hashbrown, crumbled
1 tbsp white sugar
1 tsp salt
½ tsp MSG
½ tsp white pepper
1 pc egg
1 tbsp dehydrated potato granules
siomai wrappers, square

Procedure:
1. Combine everything. Store in chiller for 2 hours to marinate all the flavors.
2. Wrap in siomai wrapper, around 1 tbsp filling
3. Steam in bamboo steamer or steamer lined with cloth.
4. Best serve when hot and with your favorite toyomansi or dumpling sauce.

There are other food on-the-go ideas from the recipe book that I want to try such as the curry fish balls, the U.S. Potato Okonomiyaki and the U.S. Potato Chunky Monkey Smoothie.

U.S.potatoes basically solved my kitchen problems in this pandemic. I can make more delicious dishes despite having limited ingredients, the ingredients I use are not expensive and they are healthy, and I also get to try to cook new and exciting dishes – no more boring meals at home!

So if you want to make your time in the kitchen worthwhile even during the pandemic, try using top quality, healthy, delicious, versatile, easily available, and affordable U.S. potatoes.
