Tagaytay used to be the nearest getaway haven for the four of us. It’s the easiest place to travel to whenever we want to be closer to nature meaning trees, big open spaces, and the mountains. But apparently, more and more people are feeling the same. Traffic is getting heavier and the restaurants we used to go to are now getting busier. More so since local tourism is getting more active.
Last time we went to Tagaytay was just this Holy Week. Though we were hesitant to go to Nasugbu for a 2-day vacation, we didn’t have much of a choice since we had already cancelled our trip and rebooked because of a weather anomaly on the previous week.
Early in the morning, we visited Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church to do the Stations of the Cross as part of our Holy Week tradition as a family. After that, we went to the mall beside the church, Ayala Mall Serin, to buy some groceries and bottled water. We didn’t like to eat in any of the restaurants there so we decided to try Sky Ranch. To our dismay, most of the restaurants there were closed or were already closed permanently.
So I told my husband to just drive and see if we would be able to find a new place to eat. We’ve checked out Antonio’s and Balay Dako and as usual, there were so many vehicles outside meaning the restaurants were already full of diners and we don’t have anywhere to park. After a kilometer of so of driving, we saw Girasol along the highway and it looks like a nice, quiet place to dine in. And we were not disappointed.
There were no other vehicles parked in the area so we were a bit hesitant. But since it’s bed & breakfast, they must have food inside. Inside was a modestly sized dining room with tables and chairs of different sizes. It was quiet, cold and comfy inside, with faux greeneries and fresh flowers on each table. With the scorching summer heat outside, we were just so relieved to finally have a place to sit down, have some refreshments and eat lunch.
Out of 5 stars, I give 4.5 ( I rarely give 5 ) . Food is great, price is expected with the exclusive ambiance, so clean and relaxing and the type of service. I wish we can go back again soon to try their dessert. The halo-halo in the menu looks so nice and inviting. If we just had the time then, I would have also agreed to the waiter’s invitation to go up and look at the rooms. I checked GiraSol’s Facebook Page and they offer a lot more when it comes to food, and accommodation and they have this secret wine room in the basement.
While we were eating, more and more diners came in and I realized that it’s not that the place is not popular. We just came in at the right time and hopefully, we will be able to eat again in Girasol just like the first time, when the place was quiet and comfortable to eat at, just perfect for the four of us to hear each other while eating.
How about you? Do you know any secret but not so secret food spot in Tagaytay or anywhere that is so nice you want to gatekeep it?
