Our First “Star Wars – A New Hope” in Concert Experience at Solaire

As a family of Star Wars fans, we’re always thrilled by anything related to this iconic series. So when we found out about Star Wars – A New Hope In Concert at Solaire Resort in Parañaque, Manila, we couldn’t resist the chance to experience it. This wasn’t just any movie screening; it was something special—a live orchestra playing the entire score while the film unfolded on the big screen.

Getting our tickets was easy enough. My husband, who follows several Star Wars fan pages, spotted the announcement, and we quickly booked online. We chose the farthest seats, figuring we’d take it slow since it was our first time watching a movie in concert format. Our seats turned out to be a bit secluded, just the four of us together at the back, but it gave us space to fully enjoy the moment as a family.

The atmosphere before the movie even began was electric! Cosplayers in full Star Wars attire roamed around, and of course, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to snap a few photos with them. It added to the excitement, especially for the kids, who loved seeing their favorite characters come to life.

Restaurants and the food court inside Solaire were far from the cinema area but they have this cafeteria where you can eat. The food choices were limited so we opted for pizza, coffee and some fruits. If you are watching concerts or films here, make sure to eat somewhere earlier.
It was cold inside the cinema so we stayed outside during the half-time break.

When the movie started and the first notes from the live orchestra filled the room, we were immediately transported into that galaxy far, far away. The music was so perfect that we often found ourselves wondering if it was really live or just recorded—it was that seamless. John Williams’ legendary score brought the film to life in a new way. It was almost like experiencing A New Hope for the first time, even though we know it by heart.

Taking photos of the movie while screening was not allowed so we were able to take photos of the orchestra after the screening. The maestro then was Gerard Salonga, and they played a repeat of one of the tracks while the lights were on and we were able to take photos and videos.

The only downside? Our seats were so far back that we couldn’t really see the orchestra anymore, which took away a bit from the visual experience. But that didn’t diminish the magic of the evening. We soaked in every minute of it, marveling at the talent of the musicians who brought such an important part of the Star Wars universe to life.

It was also our first time visiting Solaire Resort, and the place was as grand as we imagined it would be. Everything from the ambiance to the service added to the overall experience, making the night even more memorable.

Looking back, it was a new and exciting experience for all of us. If they ever decide to do the other episodes with a live orchestra, I’m pretty sure we’ll be there, ready to immerse ourselves once again in the world of Star Wars.
