As a mom, I remember how uncomfortable it was when I reached my tween stage and not know the right undergarments to wear with my clothes. I used to wear white “sando” or “undershirt” but it wasn’t enough when I turned twelve. It wasn’t because I have large busts but I wasn’t that flat-chested. Because I don’t know how to choose the right bra, I remember the bra snaps always peeking out of my blouses which made me uncomfortable and irritated most of the time.
Choosing the right bra is important for tweens because it affects posture and confidence. I remember my daughter had this habit of slouching and so I realized that it is because her chest is starting to get bigger and this makes her uncomfortable, sort of she wants to hide her chest from her friends who doesn’t have them yet.
So how can you help pick the perfect beginner bra for your daughter? Based from my own experiences and some readings, I found out that that there are three basic things you must know when choosing a bra for your young girls.
1. Size
Our mommy bras are usually measured by chest size and cup size. However, for tweens, most brands of bra still use S, M, L categories. The best way to get the perfect fit is to schedule a day where you can both go to the lingerie store or department store and help your daughter pick the bra size which she is most comfortable of. From experience Cup C or Size 30B of one brand can still feel different when it comes from a different brand.
2. Design
I haven’t seen beginner bras which have wires but I guess, in case you see one, it will still be best for young girls not to wear one. I am not comfortable to wear one myself but there are just some occasion when an outfit calls for an underwire bra. For now, young girls do not need one. Some designs which you can choose from for a beginner bra are
Training bras (for very young girls who are just beginning to develop their breasts but these have pads which will cover the nipples which may be already be noticed under the clothing)
Sports bras which are more snug on fit but can be easier to wear when your kids are into sports,
Soft cup bras which are perfect for young ladies who already have slightly fuller bosoms. These will help the breasts with soft support and make the girls comfortable on their day to day activities.
Cotton bras or t-shirt bras will be better to use because their shapes are smoother on the cups and appear more decent under t-shirts.
Strapless bras are perfect to use on strapless gowns or dresses. Most designs also have cotton hooks where invisible straps can be placed when the girls aren’t comfortable wearing them strapless, or maybe just to make sure that your bra won’t fall off even while they are dancing.
3. Material
Last but not the least is the material. In our market, what I mostly see are bras made of cotton, lace, satin, nylon and silk. Beginner bras will always be perfect in cotton because this is the coolest material and allows air to pass through. Some cheaper bras are made of nylon with some percentage of cotton. This will be fine to pick if the nylon are only on the outside portion, or the parts which doesn’t touch the skin.
Triumph Beginner Bra
Last week, we have received a beautiful red box from Triumph containing several beginner bras and undies. It also contains a pack of Modess sanitary napkins and a personal care pouch containing an alcohol from Band-Aid, a powder and a small bottle of cologne from Johnson & Johnsons. All of these are considered essentials when you are a tween. I personally use Triumph girdles because of the quality of materials they use. The beginner bras we received were in light colors and made of cotton.
If you are looking for beginner bras for your tweens, we definitely suggest for you to check out Triumph Beginner’s Collection. You and your daughter will have a great time choosing your bra and undies.
I remember when I was a tween myself and my mom got me those baby bras. I honestly wasn’t ready to enter that phase so I did not exactly embrace it with open arms. I couldn’t even remember when I first wore adult bras. Haha. Your tweens are lucky to have you as their mother, Lani. 🙂
Ang sarap naman basahin that my daughters are lucky with me as their mom haha. Yes, motherhood can be quite fulfilling especially when you know you really need have to guide them during these years.
Hahaha! reading this post made me remember my awkward teenage years :3 I remember those times when I never really liked what bras my mom made me wear cause whenever she buys stuff like this for me I’m not with her at the store. It’s very important to have your tween at the store and have her fit the bras before you buy them cause it can be uncomfortable… These are really nice tips for those who have tween daughters turning teens already.. As for me buti na lang I still don’t have to think about it for quite some time hehehe
Yes, it’s nice to have the moms go with us when we pick our bras. Even now, parang ang saya when you have someone you can relate to when buying bras.
Oh my… my daughter is turning 11 this year. We might be needing those beginner bras for her soon.
Oh my hahaha, yes, you have a tweener na too!
I remember having a hard time funding the right underwear for tweens too. Triumph solves it for mommies.
I have a long way to go before my daughter will be needing these. But thanks for the info. It is good to know that there is a company specializing in beginner bra.

I remember during my teenage days excited to wear a baby bra and sometimes fitting my mom’s bra. When I will have a daughter will take note on t his crossing fingers for a baby girl soon
I still have 10 yrs to wait hehe but yeah, I remember how kinda embarrassing it was to shop in stores, so my mother mostly did bought for me. I’ll do it with my own girl, in time.
I remember my mom buying Sara Lee sets for me when I was a preteen. :)This is somethingI won’t go through cause my kids are all boys.
I have to wait few more years before I start buying this for my girls. Hehe. Thanks for sharing this mommy 🙂
I remember when I got to have my first bra given by an aunt, I was so excited. Hehe, I’m anticipating the day when I get to teach my princess how to wear one.
We’ll be shopping for these soon but for now I will let her just wear sandos or undershirt. 🙂
it should be a very exciting time to teach daughters on how to wear bra. hopefully i will have a daughter in the future so i can apply these tips you mentioned! Triumph is a trusted brands + I really love the quality of their undergarments.
This post reminds me of the time when mom and I picked my first bra ;))
Thanks for sharing some tips in choosing tweens’bras. Although, this won’t be helpful at the moment since my kid is just 3yr old, but will definitely take note of it for the future. 😉
I only have a 19 month old son right now so I guess, this post isn’t applicable to me. However, I am looking forward to having a daughter too (in His time) and by then, I guess, this post will definitely be helpful. I just hope by that time, Triumph bras will be more affordable too!
I remember wearing those beginner bras. Sports bras were my favorite! My favorite brand is Triumph, very durable!
My daughter wears “baby bra” already since she already in Grade 6. Oh how time flies. I still remember changing her diapers, now she wears napkins and bras. Haay. I don’t have a son. I have 3 daughters.
My favorite brands for bras are Triumph, Barbizon and Bench because of the different designs, durability and quality. It’s so expensive being a girl.
Super important to have the right size! Even up now at my age, parang hindi ko pa sure kung anong size ko! I need to go to a lingerie store to get fitted soon!
This is a milestone not only for daughters, but also for moms! Triumph and Wacoal brands are the best! 🙂
