Mommy Milkshake Run 2016 – Our First Marathon Experience As A Family

Posted on Mar 8 2016 - 11:53am by tweenselmom

It was a great decision to join this year’s Mommy Milkshake Run by Mommy Mundo. I was a bit hesitant at first because BGC is too far from home but as ever, my husband is very supportive when it comes to events which will help us get fit.

To be able to come on time, we had to wake up before five in the morning and had to be driving to Bonifacio High Street (between 9th and 34th street) before 5:30am. Good thing we were already prepared with what we will be wearing and the girls also had their shirts and shoes ready. We were all sleepy but excited about the day’s adventure.

We made a short stop to Jollibee Eastwood, ordered take out of macaroni soup and burgers to fill up our empty stomach before the run.

When we got to the venue, we only had minutes before the start. I admire the families who were able to get up so early and was able to go there on time. I immediately went to register and got our racing shirts and kits. We all looked nice and were proud to wear our racing shirts. We heard the host shouted for the official start of the race and so we hurried up and started slowly. We couldn’t run fast immediately as we were not able to participate on the warm up.

Mommy Milkshake Run – running buddies or walking buddies?

Along the 3km path, we saw different types of families, mommies with their little toddlers, couples with little babies inside their strollers, and some families were like us who had their older kids with them. I say it was a peaceful marathon, and the weather was just perfect, maybe because we were early. The roads we took were not entirely closed but there were enough traffic aides to make sure that all of us run safely. There were a couple of pit stops to freshen up and drink fresh water and Gatorade.

We finished the race in less than an hour but I say we enjoyed it a lot. My eldest and I were the race buddies while my husband and the youngest were partners because they ran faster. I appreciated those precious minutes when my daughter and I were able to talk, mostly about her obsession about One Direction and other teen stuff. We ended up sweating and energized.

I have to commend Mommy Mundo and its staff for the very organized event. The number of sponsor booths were not too many and there was enough space for everyone to walk around even after the run. I’ve tried only one booth where I got a Downy sample and then got our freebies. I was just sad that I wasn’t able to see some of the moms from Mommy Bloggers Philippines but I saw their photos on Instagram.

Families should make time to have fun and be fit together. The kids may be lazy at first when they think of how they will feel tired running but when you go together, you’ll all realize that family marathons are fun. See you next year on Milkshake Run 2017!

It is really great to participate on activities that promote fitness and family bonding. I haven’t joined any marathon or funrun yet. I just can’t get myself to wake up really early.

That’s a great and healthy way to bond with the family! I used to run on marathons when I was still a student athlete and seeing this post made me realize how unfit I am now that I have a job already. Hopefully I could join a marathon around my place again. Or a family marathon would be really nice!
