We are lucky parents because our generation encourages our little girls not only to pursue greatness through physical beauty but by being achievers themselves. And it’s not about being successful in certain types of careers but in fields which they will truly enjoy.
I’ve always known Barbie as the ultimate fashionista icon and that girls who play with Barbie dolls can only look up to her because of her beauty and her relationship with Ken. Because of these aspects, I once thought that her character only fits in the little girls’ dreams. Her perfect character won’t fit in reality.
But the Barbie : You Can Be Anything line changed that. In their website http://www.barbie.com/en-us/youcanbeanything/ , the Barbie creator Ruth Handler, said that Barbie tells the little girls that they have a choice. Through play and imagination with Barbie dolls, the little kids can try different roles, not only one, but as many and as creative as what their imagination lets them.
My daughters don’t have fixed mindsets yet as to what they want to be when they grow up. Most of their aspirations are being affected by what they read, sometimes the celebrities that they idolize, and sometimes by us, their parents. We, as their parents, try to encourage them to be open to different ideas, be more sociable because they learn also by interacting with people, and to not be afraid. The most important thing is that they have to have an ambition or a goal, to be someone better or even best in whatever field they choose to be. They can look up to Barbie not only because she is pretty and wears beautiful clothes, but because she is also confident in whatever career she chooses to have.
There are so many Barbie dolls to choose from for the kids to play with and they now have what my husband call as “articulations” (he’s a toy collector too) which means the dolls have joints which can be moved and posed to different angles.

I have never seen those types of barbies – I will keep them in mind when I am buying a new one for my granddaughter 🙂
Wow this is really fun, what an awesome idea! I wonder if they have veterinarian Barbie?
I love this campaign. Girls need to be empowered.
Barbies were my favorite growing up. I am so happy they are still around. It is wild to see how they have evolved.
I had a good amount of Barbies growing up but none of my 3 girls really liked them. And I didn’t mind because they had plenty of other things to play with.
It is good to see that the Barbie empire is doing something to help girls dream about their future in good ways.
So many kinds of Barbie. I remember when I was a child was only 1 kind of Barbie, time flies.
