Last August 31, I was lucky to witness an event which is close to my heart and to every Filipino’s heart. SM Hypermarket Streetfood Festival! Growing up in Barangay Unang Sigaw in Balintawak, Quezon City, I remember how streetfood was everywhere specially when it is the baranggay fiesta. This streetfood festival brings back good and fun memories with my neighbors, my distant cousins and playmates and “kababata”.
And who wouldn’t like street food? For me, these food transcends economic status, gender and regionality. In some point of our lives, we crave eating “turo-turo” and “tusok-tusok”. And our street food has already evolved. Aside from the “isaw”, intestines (there are a whole lot more types of innards actually), street food also includes ham, bacon, tocino, tapa, hotdogs and footlongs. Just the type of food that are being cooked at home but served in street, hot and crispy.
The SM Hypermarket Streetfood Festival
The SM Hypermarket Streetfood Festival is a fun and irresistible event which was just started in SM Fairview Hypermarket. It marked the beginning of the series of delicious roadshows which will happen in the following dates:
- SM Valenzuela on September 9
- SM Bicutan on September 23
- SM Molino on October 14
- the grand finale which will be happening in SM Mall of Asia on October 20
These events are being participated by the biggest and most familiar food brands such as Unilever, Nestle, San Miguel, Alaska, Del Monte, P&G, CDO, Frabelle, Farm Fresh and Bounty Fresh. I know all these brands because I’m an SM Hypermarket shopper myself.
But what will a food festival be without new flavors to try? You’ll be delighted to taste from the offerings of Cebu Lechon Belly, Southern Dairy, Banchetto’s Crepes, Takoyaki, bacon-wrapped delights and my favorite but most affordable merienda from SM Hypermarket, the SM Markets Turon and Langka.
The Programs
Attending these events will not only satisfy your taste buds but your budgets as well. The participating brands have their own stalls where they offer price-offs and promos where shoppers get to save a lot when they purchase. Either you get freebies or huge discounts when you buy in bulk. There are also exciting games to join in.
Chef Boy Logro’s cooking demos will be one of the most awaited part of the program. I have only watched him once or twice on tv but I was really entertained by his ala Wok With Yan style of cooking. (Wok With Yan, if you don’t have an idea, is a popular Chinese cooking show by Stephen Yan. I have been very fond of watching cooking shows since I was a little girl. I used to wait for the program on Channel 9 and I finish watching it till it ends with the chef giving a portion of his cooked food to the audience). Chef Boy Logro is the Filipino version, I hope it’s ok with it if I call him that, because he also cooks fast and he is entertaining to watch.
The Grand Raffle
From September 1 to October 20, specially bundled packs will be available in select Hypermarket branches which contain raffle coupons to win P100,000 prize to be announced in SM Mall of Asia. I’m definitely looking out for these bundles when I do my grocery. Who knows?
The SM Hypermarket Streetfood Festival is a one-of-a-kind food fest and it’s just perfect not only for street food lovers but for everyone who wants to try a different kind of food trip, where there’s something to eat, to drink, to learn, and to win! I wouldn’t miss the roadshows if I were you!
