My MMFF Experience This December 2014

Posted on Jan 1 2015 - 9:26pm by tweenselmom

I got to watch only one movie from MMFF this year (Vic Sotto’s My Big Bossing Adventures). We were supposed to watch Vice Ganda’s movie because we’ve watched Vice’s movies before. My cousin Iris told me that Vice’s Film Fest entry’s plot is not good but it’s hilarious so we planned to watch it on the first day of the year. But lo, there were only 2 seats left when we checked on Sureseats. We had to pick another movie because this will be our last chance to watch a movie together. There were 10 of us so mind you of the disappointment.

Vic Sotto’s My Big Bossing did not live up to my expectations. His Enteng Kabisote movies are much better than this film this year. Aling Maliit’s cuteness and funny wit made me smile though, an hour and a half’s time to relax my feet plus the chance to be with my aunts and cousins. We occupied the whole row in the middle of Fairview Terraces’ cinema and it was quite fun thinking of this. These were my consolation.

Before this, I’ve seen several reviews about Big Bossing. I wasn’t able to read one completely and I hope I did. I just based my decision on the blog titles which increased my expectations that this movie will at least be something I can enjoy like I did with Vic Sotto’s previous movies. Well, this is only my opinion though I tend to agree with myself all the more knowing that my two aunts dozed off during some periods of the movie. No big casts, no special effects, and the plots of the 3-small-movies-within-a-movie were too simple. My 11 year old daughter who is my movie buddy is quite a movie critic already and she rated it as “no comment”. Nobody talked about the movie either when we went home, all sleepy.

But, I won’t be surprised if this movie will win a blockbuster. The cinema was full and I heard several moments of laughter from the audience. Even then, I still wished that Vic had produced something better and grander for the public. After all, he’s the only comedian producing Filipino movies which are good enough for little kids. His movies are being waited upon by families and it will be sad if these families will just watch just because they don’t have anything to choose from. Please Bossing please.

I think it’s the script. I used to love the TVJ trio comedies, but their humor’s long outdated, they need new material and fresh scripts.

In fairness, MMFF has improved in the last 2-3 years. There really are films that will make you want to spend to watch them. The incentive they’re giving winning producers are accomplishing its purpose.

That’s so optimistic of you May. Care to share your opinion on one of the entries this December? I am still hoping that there’s one out there worth watching.

I’m looking forward to seeing Bonifacio and English Only, Please. I’m more after the fluidity and depth of the script. I don’t really watch Tagalog movies yet with my kids, except for RPG Metanoia in 2010 – the animation one. The main animator is a friend. 🙂

agree on both of your choices may! english only is simple pero may tama sa puso, natural ang acting nila lahat and mapapamahal ka sa characters, reminded me of good movies back in the 80s

I stopped watching MMFF several years ago, I can’t remember na nga yung last na napanood ko. It doesn’t interest me at all. But I heard maganda ang English Only Please and Bonifacio.

I agree with May! nag improve talaga ang MMFF, dumami ang options and mukhnag nageefort na sila.
kasi honestly parang twing MMFF season lang umaarya ang local movies. kaya dapat itodo na! I love TVJ din before kaso un nga parang kumukupas na ung humor nila 🙁

I Also heard about EOP being a good movie, I’ve never tried watching mmff movies before, esp now that we have a baby but given a chance, I’d like to watch EOP, Bonifacio and Private Benj

Oh, how sad! I’m all for supporting the Philippine cinema but if they continue to produce low quality movies, that won’t cut it.

Wow, all 10 of you! It must be so hard to find seats where you are all seated together! We were able to catch English only, please and I found it nice and funny. 🙂

I haven’t watched any MMFF movies for as long as I can’t remember. Not because I’m not a fan of Filipino movies, my issue is there is lack of artistry and good story in most movies these days. Parang lahat, gusto lang talaga kumita, kahit wala ng sense ang story 🙁

I like Vic Sotto, but my problem with this movie, as well as his other projects, is that it banks on making fun of Ryzza Mae. They need to remember that she is a child and the cruel “jokes” about her physical appearance (when she’s actually cute and pretty!) may affect her self-esteem more than they know. I’d love it if Bossing makes a movie of the Markova caliber.

It has been a really long time since I last watched a MMFF movie. Somehow they stopped being appealing to me. I think the last year I watched was when Judy Ann and Ryan had a movie together. I watched because Ryan’s a friend of mine. I ended up really liking the movie. It was so funny!

We were able to watch Bosing Vic’s and Vice Ganda’s movies and that of Jennylyn and Derek’s. Of the three, the one we really find worth watching was English Only, Please. It has a nice plot, good acting and great chemistry between the two lead stars. — Maria Teresa Figuerres

We weren’t able to watch any MMFF film, but if given a chance I think I will choose Feng Shui (because I like scary movies) TAPB of Vice Ganda (because I like Vice Ganda’s joke) or English Only Please! (because I am curious with this movie). I like Vic Sotto but nakaka turn off ang movies nya. Sana gumawa sya ng mas may kahulugan na movies like 3 Idiots or PK of Aamir Khan
