1.Energy-Saving Water Tips

Hot water usage in the home is one of the major causes of high utility costs. By reducing the amount of hot water that is used, expenses are decreased. There are a number of practical ways to use less water. Take a shower rather than soaking in a tub, which uses much more water, especially when continually topping off with hot water. When showering, choose to reduce the length of time spent in the shower.

Repair any leaking faucets. Every drop adds up to gallons of wastage. Replace your shower head with an energy-efficient shower head with a Water Sense label. Lowering the temperature on your water heater by ten or twenty degrees also saves on energy expenses.

2. Cut Costs With Heating and Cooling

Heating and cooling the home is another big expense. It’s important to have a free flow of air through the home for both heating and cooling. Horne Heating and Air Conditioning suggests regular routine HVAC maintenance to avoid expensive repairs. They will sort out leaking ducts and dirty filters, which are a common issue causing the system to overwork.

Save energy by checking the seals on the doors and windows, and lower the thermostat when no one is at home. Make sure that the HVAC vents are open and unobstructed. Installing a ceiling fan helps in a number of ways. Fans don’t heat or cool a room, but they circulate the air. The circulation helps to maintain an even temperature and lessens the load of the heating or cooling system.

3. Save With Power and Lighting

An easy solution is to use energy-efficient light bulbs with the Energy Star label. Bright lighting uses a lot of energy, so think about installing dimmer switches. Use the dimmers to create the right brightness for your needs. You can set the mood and save electricity.

Also consider using smart power strips, which allow you to keep your appliances and devices plugged in without drawing power until they are in use.

4. Make the Best Use of Your Appliances

Use appliances wisely, and you’ll be surprised at how much you can save. By using less heat, you’ll be using less energy. Instead of using hot water, run your washing machine on cold water. A dryer requires heat to dry clothes, so that can’t be changed, but you can try using it on a lower setting or cutting down the drying time. Additionally, don’t overload the drier, which will result in needing a second cycle.

Although dishwashers need heat to wash the dishes, drying the dishes doesn’t require heat. The heat is used to prevent water spots on the crockery. Skip the dry heating method by using a rinse aid instead.

With very little effort it is possible to stretch your dollar and adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. Your home will still be comfortable, and the family will enjoy the extra cash.
