Quezon City residents has one big reason to celebrate as National Bookstore has established its institution for higher learning within Quezon City. NBS College is located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the National Book Store Building. If you have been residing in Quezon City for several years, you may have seen the NBS Building before but was not aware that there was an ongoing renovation inside. I’ve been to the building for several times, when we needed to scour some books in National Bookstore, and when I needed something to buy in the department store which was previously in the lower level of the NBS Building.
NBS College will be offering 6 degree programs:
BS Accountancy
BS Accounting Information System
BS Entrepreneurship
BS Computer Science
BS Library and Information Science
BS Tourism Management

When asked why these NBS chose these 6 programs, they answered the attendees in the media launch that it was because these courses will cater to some of the most in-demand professions. I do agree with them as college graduates of these courses can be offered employment by almost all kinds of business (Accountants, IT and Business Managers).

The administrators also tackled other important topics that day including tuition fee, the kind of facilities they have and the quality of education they will be able to provide. For the tuition fee, NBS Courses will require an estimate of P25,000-P40,000 per course per year. This amount is very affordable as compared to popular universities where tuition fees range reach up to more than a hundred thousand per year, and some even per semester alone.
NBS also offers scholarship and financial assistance.
For Valedictorian, Salutatorian and First Honorable Mention (Ranks 1-3), they offer 100% free tuition and miscellaneous fees and free school uniform and books. For students who ranked 4-10, NBS will offer only 100% free tuition and miscellaneous fees.
For the pioneer batch, NBS will give a scholarship grant of P12,500 per year for the Pioneer Batch for SY 2018-2019. Tuition per unit locked-in for 4 years.

As a parent, this news gives us some breathing space. With the price of education these days getting steeper and steeper, a new college institution backed by a big time company such as National Book Store which at the same time gives financial assistance, it gives us hope that our kids will have better chances of being able to go to college in the future and get quality education.
For 75 years, National Book Store has been supporting Filipinos’ education and with the kind of service they were able to give all those years, we have high hopes that the NBS College will progress and will hopefully have more branches in the future.
