Absent ba lagi ang anak nyo sa school? Try giving them a serving of pineapple a day. Yes, actually, a clinical study was held recently to check the effects of canned pineapples as immunity booster. For 9 weeks, a group of 98 students from Paco, Manila were chosen to participate in a case study where a number of them were not given any canned pineapples and compared them to the rest who were given Del Monte Pineapple tidbits. After the test, those students who ate pineapples showed increased resistance to disease and infection.
Good news diba? There’s an abundant supply of pineapples in the market and in our local grocery, all year through. But what’s keeping us from serving pineapples? It’s the taste. Kids hate the sour and the itchy effect of eating pineapples. Kahit ako, I sometimes don’t eat pineapples because of that.
To tell you the truth, I just recently appreciated Del Monte Pineapples, not only because of the healthy effects the pineapples give to our kids but the way Del Monte produced them. I’ve learned from their product manager that when they harvest the pineapples from their farms, they process these fruits the same day to keep the freshness intact. Del Monte Pineapples are naturally sweet and you won’t have that itchy tongue after you eat them. Each serving contains multiple vitamins such as Vitamin C, Vitamin B2, fiber and manganese.
This morning, I tried making a double-deck sandwich I shared with my husband and my kids. If your kids are picky when it comes to fruits, you have to be creative in preparing your food. Just like in this sandwich where I used Del Monte Pineapple Slices, I sliced the whole sandwich into 4 and we ate each slices at the same time. My girls enjoyed the thought of eating one sandwich together. Di ba, ang saya.
Here’s my recipe you can freely print or share.

Last August 18, we were invited by Del Monte in a forum where guest health specialists, researchers and co-mommy bloggers were in the panel to speak about the importance of incorporating fruits in our daily diet. It was a fun event being able to share experiences with different moms on their strategies in keeping their kids healthy through proper nutrition. Del Monte also shared with us exciting recipes which are easy to re-create at home. Was able to taste some of them at Museum Cafe where the event was held.
