How To Help Your Tweens Pick The Right Bra

As a mom, I remember how uncomfortable it was when I reached my tween stage and not know the right undergarments to wear with my clothes. I used to wear white “sando” or “undershirt” but it wasn’t enough when I turned twelve. It wasn’t because I have large busts but  I wasn’t that flat-chested. Because I don’t know how to choose the right bra, I remember the bra snaps always peeking out of my blouses which made me uncomfortable and irritated most of the time.

Choosing the right bra is important for tweens because it affects posture and confidence. I remember my daughter had this habit of slouching and so I realized that it is because her chest is starting to get bigger and this makes her uncomfortable, sort of she wants to hide her chest from her friends who doesn’t have them yet.

So how can you help pick the perfect beginner bra for your daughter? Based from my own experiences and some readings, I found out that that there are three basic things you must know when choosing a bra for your young girls.

1. Size

Our mommy bras are usually measured by chest size and cup size. However, for tweens, most brands of bra still use S, M, L categories. The best way to get the perfect fit is to schedule a day where you can both go to the lingerie store or department store and help your daughter pick the bra size which she is most comfortable of. From experience Cup C or Size 30B of one brand can still feel different when it comes from a different brand.

2. Design

I haven’t seen beginner bras which have wires but I guess, in case you see one, it will still be best for young girls not to wear one. I am not comfortable to wear one myself but there are just some occasion when an outfit calls for an underwire bra. For now, young girls do not need one. Some designs which you can choose from for a beginner bra are

Training bras (for very young girls who are just beginning to develop their breasts but these have pads which will cover the nipples which may be already be noticed under the clothing)

Sports bras which are more snug on fit but can be easier to wear when your kids are into sports,

Soft cup bras which are perfect for young ladies who already have slightly fuller bosoms. These will help the breasts with soft support and make the girls comfortable on their day to day activities.

Cotton bras or t-shirt bras will be better to use because their shapes are smoother on the cups and appear more decent under t-shirts.

Strapless bras are perfect to use on strapless gowns or dresses. Most designs also have cotton hooks where invisible straps can be placed when the girls aren’t comfortable wearing them strapless, or maybe just to make sure that your bra won’t fall off even while they are dancing.

3. Material

Last but not the least is the material. In our market, what I mostly see are bras made of cotton, lace, satin, nylon and silk. Beginner bras will always be perfect in cotton because this is the coolest material and allows air to pass through. Some cheaper bras are made of nylon with some percentage of cotton. This will be fine to pick if the nylon are only on the outside portion, or the parts which doesn’t touch the skin.

Triumph Beginner Bra

Last week, we have received a beautiful red box from Triumph containing several beginner bras and undies. It also contains a pack of Modess sanitary napkins and a personal care pouch containing an alcohol from Band-Aid, a powder and a small bottle of cologne from Johnson & Johnsons. All of these are considered essentials when you are a tween. I personally use Triumph girdles because of the quality of materials they use. The beginner bras we received were in light colors and made of cotton.

If you are looking for beginner bras for your tweens, we definitely suggest for you to check out Triumph Beginner’s Collection. You and your daughter will have a great time choosing your bra and undies.
