Create Your Own Perfect Summer Fruit Bowl

It’s summer already and we can already feel the heat. Though it’s quarantine time currently, we can still be cheerful as summer means plenty of tropical fruits to enjoy. The best way for me to have the kids eat fruits, not only on summer, is by serving them in a fruit bowl – a bowl made of fresh fruit like papaya, watermelon or coconut.

I made one just recently and I enjoyed it and looking forward to creating and serving more this summer. Here are some tips to make the perfect fruit bowl:

1.Choose a fruit with the right size – I find papaya, watermelon and coconut as the best and most common but there are smaller fruits that can be used as well like avocado, pineapples, fruits that have sturdy or thick skin.

2. Choose fresh and cheap – although there are plenty of fruits to choose from, there are still those that are more expensive. Try buying the expensive ones minimally and mix them with the cheaper ones. The combination of fruits usually taste better than you expect them to be.

3. Buy fruits that you plan to eat soon – the hot weather is not friendly to fruits that were already picked and they tend to perish a lot sooner. So serve them immediately as much as possible.

4. Choose fruits in different colors and texture – sweet fruits mix well with sour like apples, pineapples, mangoes and papaya and watermelon are varied in colors and texture.

5. Don’t add sugar – sugar makes fruits watery so if you want to add sweetness to your fruits, you can use honey or sweetened cream or milk.

6. Don’t be shy in adding vegetables in your fruits. There are veggies that can go well with fruits such as carrots, beets, basil and bellpepper and they can add texture, crunch and savor to your fruit bowl.

7. If you are not able to eat all the fruits from your fruit bowl as they tend to be heavy in tummy, freeze them instead of throwing them, and then blend them to make smoothie.
